Description

Pseudopanax ferox, also known as toothed lancewood, Fierce Lancewood or horoeka, is a small tree endemic to New Zealand. It is notable for its distinctive juvenile leaves, which are dark grey-brown to grey-green, narrow, stiff, and can grow up to 40 cm long. These leaves have a prominent tooth-like shape, giving the tree its common name.

As the tree matures, its leaves become shorter, wider, and dark green. The mature tree can reach up to 6 meters in height and develops a more typical tree shape with spreading branches and a rounded head. Pseudopanax ferox is often used in gardens for its unique appearance and architectural form.
