Olearia Paniculata
Description
Olearia paniculata, commonly known as Akiraho, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to New Zealand. It grows moderately, reaching 3 to 8 meters tall and spreading 1.5 to 3 meters wide at maturity.
This plant thrives in well-drained soils and prefers full sun exposure. It is ideal for coastal gardens, city and courtyard gardens, and informal garden settings. It can also be used effectively as a hedge or screen.
The leaves are elliptic to ovate-oblong with a wavy edge, shiny and soft olive-green on the upper side, and covered with a soft buff or silvery down on the underside.
Olearia paniculata is often used in gardens for its ornamental value. It makes an excellent wind-resistant hedge, especially in seaside gardens. Additionally, it provides nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators, making it valuable for wildlife gardens.
To care for Olearia paniculata, plant it in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny location. Water moderately during growth and feed monthly. It is generally pest-free and requires minimal pruning, making it a low-maintenance addition to any garden.
