Drainage Field Guidelines
Drainage fields consist of hardy plants that don't mind wet feet. These types of plants are often found in wetland areas where poor drainage and excess surface water go hand in hand. Because of this these plants are ideally suited to drainage fields where the soil moisture tends to err on the wetter side.
Regarding plant spacing and total plants required it is best to mix big plants with little plants and take the total square meterage of the drainage field as the total number of plants.
Example - A 90m2 drainage field could have the following:
At 90m2 it would require 90 plants which could be made up of: 15 cabbage trees, 15 Phormium Tenax Purpurea, 15 Phormium Cookianum, 15 Carex Secta, 15 Arthropodiums and 15 Coprosma Acerosa Hawera as ground cover.
